3.3 Working patterns by stage of production

Tables 3.3.1 to 3.3.5 reveal that workers involved in post production worked on an average of 3 feature productions in the previous twelve months, higher than those involved in other stages of production. They, and their counterparts in the development stage, were also more likely to have worked for a substantial period on a recent feature.  As was the case in the 2005 survey report, workers in these two groups were also more likely to have an average working day of 8 or fewer hours, and to have been employed in feature work for the major part of the previous year. And they were far less likely to have been unemployed and seeking work in that time. As the 2005 report makes clear, this may be related to the fact that the types of workers involved in development and post production were more likely than others to be in permanent employment, rather than in project-based freelance work.
