7.9 Changing demand for particular types of skill

Respondents were asked whether they thought there would be any changes to the type of skills needed in their field over the next few years. The majority, 89%, felt there would be. Future demand was felt to be strongest in the area of skills linked to new technology: six out of ten respondents felt there would be a need for better knowledge of digital or computer based technology or formats, while just under half (47%) saw the need for better knowledge of other types of new technology. Over one third of the sample felt there would be demand for better knowledge of health and safety and working practice regulations.
